With 27 years in the hi-tech and telecommunications sector, Steve Spooner has a wealth of experience in corporate finance, strategic business planning and operational leadership.

As Chief Financial Officer for Mitel® Networks Steve has global responsibility for Finance, Operations, Legal, Information Technology, M&A and Investor Relations. Steve’s past experience includes roles as CEO, COO and CFO of both emerging and established industry players including tenures at Digital, Wang, SHL Systemhouse, CrossKeys Systems, Stream Intelligent Networks and Wysdom.

Steve has significant capital raising experience, most notably having led the largest IPO in Ottawa’s history, when Mitel rose $147M on NASDAQ in April 2010. Steve also led the raising of $760M of debt and equity financing in August 2007, to finance the acquisition of Inter-Tel. In addition Steve has also previously led a cross-border NASDAQ / TSX IPO in 1997.

Steve is a board member and Chair of the Audit Committee for Magor Communications Corporation, and also sits on the boards of key Mitel subsidiaries.

Steve has sat on several strategic advisory boards for emerging tech companies and is a former member of the Board of the Canadian Wireless Telecom Association and former Chairman of the CWTA’s Fixed Wireless Committee.

Steve is active in the Ottawa community, particularly supporting health care. He is both a board member and executive committee member of The Ottawa Hospital Foundation and is a frequent speaker, spokesperson and fundraiser for the Foundation.

Steve obtained his CA designation in 1982 and was elected a Fellow Chartered Accountant in 2011. He is a graduate of Carleton University (Bachelor of Commerce 1980). He also holds the ICD.D professional director designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
