Customer Success Story: Coca Cola United

    Coca-Cola Bottling Company United Inc., based in Birmingham, Ala., employs nearly 3,000 employees in six states. In the United States, Coca-Cola United is the third largest bottler of Coca-Cola products and the largest privately held Coca-Cola bottler.

    As a multisite organization, the company had a growing need to improve business processes and reduce operational costs. It had different vendors and systems, which made communicating and getting voice mail easily a challenge. More importantly, Coca-Cola United needed a new phone system that would provide reliability, security and flexibility, as well as simplify communications within their organization.

    To help them select their new phone system the decision-makers at Coca-Cola United worked with Mitel Platinum Solution Provider CNC. The bottler formed a telephone selection committee, which evaluated many vendors. In the end the committee voted unanimously for Mitel, saying it was the only vendor that could address some of the unique challenges they had.

    The implementation went great. “In 25 years in business I have never been involved in a smoother installation,” says Patricia Hughes, president of CNC. She reports that Coca-Cola United has realized the following benefits from the new system:

    • Improved day-to-day operations
    • Single point of administration to manage 18 locations
    • Increased productivity with phones that work throughout the plants and dynamic extension, which allows executives and salespersons to have a single number regardless of their location

    “Overall the project was very painless,” says Michael Neighbors, vice president of IT for Coca-Cola United. “One of the highlights is that of the technology in the new plant, the new infrastructure network, the switches and the telephone systems were of the few areas that we had almost no problems at all. CNC and Mitel just proved to be the right solution.”
