Mitel BPC 2013 – Day 1 – A Partner’s Perspective

Today marked the first day of the Mitel Business Partner Conference, or BPC for short.  This annual event is being held here at the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa in Hollywood, Florida.  Although it was just the first day of a three day event, the first day did not fail to deliver.

IMG_00000021With most people arriving in the early afternoon, the Solutions Expo was the first stop for many.  The Solutions Expo had the normal Mitel solutions and services, but also an array of booths from Mitel’s partners.  Mitel has done a great job in bringing a number of manufactures and software companies that can add value to the Mitel solutions that customers acquire.  There was some really neat products on the Solutions Expo floor this year!

In addition to the Solutions Expo, there were also some great presentations – including one I stopped into watch from Vidyo.  Vidyo has spent a considerable amount of time integrating their product into Mitel’s portfolio of unified communications solutions, including integration to MiCollab Advanced (UC Advanced).  No matter if you want video collaboration the old way (room based), on the desktop via MiCollab Advanced or even on your tablet or smartphone – Mitel and Vidyo have a solution for you.IMG_00000020

Another area of the Solution Expo that was getting a lot of attention was the Genius Bar.  The Genius Bar provides a highly skilled expert within each of Mitel’s product families – and in some cases the “Genius” is the Product Manager for that specific product.  It’s one of the best opportunities to get your advanced technical questions answered.  What I enjoy most about the Genius Bar is you not only get the “yes” or “no” answer, but also the detailed explanation of how it works.  The Genius’ will take the time to draw you out a topology so that it can be easily understood.

Although today was a great day for the Mitel Community to come together and reunite, tomorrow promises to be a true highlight of the event.  Tomorrow we will hear from Mitel’s CEO, Richard McBee, Mitel’s CFO, Steve Spooner, the newly appointed Mitel Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Martyn Etherington and also the newly appointed Executive Vice President of Sales – America, Joe Vitalone.  This is the team that is prepared to take Mitel to the next level in fiscal year (FY) 2014.  It will be very interesting to hear what they have to say and the direction we will focus on to ensure success for everyone over the next FY.  Recent news releases show Mitel has closed out FY 2013 Q4 with some very decent numbers and improved profitability.  Moving forward, it’s exciting to see what FY 2014 is going to bring and how we are all going to succeed with the plans put forth.

Hopefully everyone is enjoying BPC 2013!  For those of you on Twitter, make sure you follow @Mitel and also the #MitelBPC hash tag.  There is a daily chance to win one of several $100 American Express Gift Cards.  All you have to do is provide an insightful tweet about Mitel’s BPC and ensure you use the hash tag #MitelBPC.  It’s that simple!

Again, welcome to Florida everyone and I hope you enjoy your time!
