Dutch University Medical Center Deploys One of the Largest Private Mobile Solutions With Mitel and Zetacom

Mitel® (Nasdaq:MITL) (TSX:MNW), a leading provider of cloud and premises based unified communications software solutions, today announced the University Medical Center Utrecht (UMCU), the largest public healthcare institution in the Netherlands, is replacing its communication platform with a Mitel Private Cloud solution. The new solution, designed, implemented and managed by Mitel partner Zetacom, integrates Mitel with healthcare applications, including a custom designed application for smartphones intended to optimize communication between 11,000 doctors, nurses and healthcare employees.

More than 3,500 of those employees will use a private GSM solution (a mobile network that is locally managed and controlled) from Mitel, making them more accessible when they are away from their desk. A new custom application designed by Zetacom will also make it possible to securely distribute alarm messages within the private GSM environment. In the future employees will be able to connect to other healthcare applications via their smartphone.

The MiVoice Business Multi-Instance platform, enabling a private cloud solution, will be used by the entire UMCU, which includes Academic Hospital Utrecht, Wilhelmina Children's Hospital and the Medical Faculty Utrecht and centralized management and maintenance. The Central Military Hospital will be standalone but connected. Using MiVoice for Lync, the new solution will be integrated with Microsoft Lync, providing users access to a complete range of telephony and messaging features without having to leave their existing Lync environment.

The new system also integrates desk based telephony, mobile data, messaging and medical alarm applications, making it possible to communicate using chat, mobile or desktop phone or PC; delivering unified communications across the organizations.
