Radboud Hospital Nijmegen selects Mitel

HPS and Mitel win the largest communication tender of 2009

Mitel

The SKU selected an IP-telephony environment, both for reasons of efficiency and effectiveness. The existing data network can  best be used in an IP-environment and teleworking becomes simpler. In total 15,000 connections will be reduced to 11,000, which will represent an enormous cost saving. This will be achieved through the use of Mitel solutions and the integration of GSM devices into the fixed telephony environment. The roll-out will take place in a phased manner over a period of approximately four years. This ensures continued functionality and reachability during implementation.

The solution offers expanded possibilities to especially the University Medical Centre to maximize the reachability and availability. The switchboard of the hospital will obviously not be allowed to malfunction under any circumstance. The new environment offers a variety of soft and hardware mechanisms and safety-nets for just this purpose. All the traditional devices at the Radboud University are also going to be replaced by IP phones.

Mr. Veenstra, director  of UCI SKU: "One of the sresasons we selected the Mitel solution is for its open standards. This makes it easy to connect to our existing Philips-environment. This is of crucial importance in a phased transition from the Philips to the Mitel environment. The simple connection with products from other manufacturers (i.e. ASCOM) offers us the flexibility to be able to make the best use, now and in the future."

As a partner of Mitel, HPS ensures the implementation and the maintenance of the SKU system, peripherals, and software. Furthermore, they have developed custom software, specific features and applications. An example is the Phonebook Manager, which collects information from arbitrary databases and then presents this as a phone book via the web-browser. The telephone number (GSM, Internal, external, etc) is directly reachable by way of a "click to call" principle. HPS will also be involved in the link-up with other systems in the hospital, such as the nursing care paging system and the "beeper system."

Lars Christophersen of HPS Solutions stated: "The fact that we are able to carry out this project together with Mitel for SKU is for us a confirmation that our products and services connect perfectly with even the most complex projects. We have been working very closely with Mitel for a long time and have been able to personally experience that this technology has been able to demonstrate itself more and more in large business critical settings over the last few years."

"Due to our collaboration with HPS, we can offer SKU a platform that is characterized by easy accessibility, excellent security and ample opportunities for the future," said Gijs Borsboom, Regional Sales Director Northern Europe at Mitel. "It's an extra bonus when a large scale organization like SKU, with their complex communications challenges, chooses us after a thorough selection process".
