Rich Communications Services

For mobile operators launching Rich Communications Services (RCS), Mitel's RCS solution is fully standards compliant and supports the latest GSMA RCS 5.1 specifications.

These specifications build on the previous OMA CPM, RCS and RCSe/joyn™ requirements. Mitel enables a seamless network and services evolution to introduce these new services to users. Our industry leading technology platform blends IMS-based RCS services with traditional mobile services such as SMS and MMS and connects the operator services with the 3rd party social networks and over-the-top (OTT) applications.

Unique Business Values for Rich Communication Services

RCS aims to provide an interoperable extension to voice and messaging with services that are designed to run over data networks and can stand alone (e.g. share a picture from the media gallery) or be used in combination with a voice call (e.g. see-what-I-see video). Mitel's RCS solution offers a compelling business case with rapid integration of social presence information, messaging and media sharing services across RCS-enabled devices. Operators can quickly and easily offer new user experiences.

Service Differentiation – Social Presence Information

Presence is a key enabler for rich communications across mobile user communities. Social Presence fuels revenue generating services such as enhanced address book, group messaging, image/video sharing, gaming, social networking and voice services for both consumer and enterprise users. With Mitel's solution, users can set personalized profiles across multiple smart devices, including presence status updates, where presence notification is sent to all devices provisioned under the same user account. RCS service can also bundled with privacy managed geo-location information to accelerate adoption of new applications via multiple 3rd party and operator managed app stores.

Service Differentiation – Rich Messaging

Messaging is a critical source of revenues for global mobile operators, making it critical to offer new capabilities to keep the service attractive for an end user. RCS solution introduces rich messaging services from simple text IM to conversational and group messaging. Capability Discovery is also a key element of RCS 5.1 service set and is implemented using the messaging application server (AS) for multi-device handling and other optimizations. The RCS service is extended to non-RCS mobile users via SMS and MMS interworking function (IP-SM Gateway), with network intelligence to route the message to available device or the client.

Service Differentiation – Media Sharing

Photos, videos, walls, icons, content and file sharing has become a widely accepted mode of sharing information, asynchronously. Mitel RCS solution empowers the users to share any kind of media across both RCS (connected via 3G/4G/Wi-Fi) and non-RCS clients to enhance the user experience.

Service Differentiation – Social Networks Aggregation

Mitel enhances the user experience by aggregating buddy notification feeds from various sites to offer a simple, streamlined social activity map for their close group of web contacts. Mitel's RCS solution also offers interworking with IM communities to leverage usage growth to benefit the operator value proposition.

Network Cost Optimization – Integrated Solution

The solution integrates Presence and Instant Messaging servers with the IMS core on the mOne® Convergence Platform making it easy for mobile operators to deploy services rapidly in a highly competitive market. The collapsed architecture drastically reduces entry costs for IMS service and enables operators to focus their resources on marketing and creating differentiated features instead of dealing with operational complexities. The application servers have modular flexibility to be integrated with any 3rd party IMS core already deployed in the network.

Network Cost Optimization – Single, Scalable Platform

The RCS solution is based on our flagship, highly scalable mOne® platform with carrier grade reliability and leading capacity offering lowest cost per TPS. It offers multiple deployment options with distributed or integrated functionality. The modular software architecture with flexible service logic execution engine enables continuous innovation to offer rich end user experience.
