Channelnomics: A Word about M & A in the Channel

    This week alone Dell has gone on a $1.5 billion shopping spree, buying thin-client specialist Wyse Technologies and cloud enabler Clerity Solutions. The deals are designed to transform Dell from point-products vendor to an IT portfolio company.

    At the same time, Microsoft solution provider Sentri bought Clearway, another Microsoft partner specialized in CRM and software integration.

    And these are just the tip of the M&A iceberg. In the first quarter alone, vendors and solution providers have spent more than $10 billion on mergers and acquisitions. Large vendors are buying smaller, innovative vendors for their technologies and channels. Distributors are buying integrators for their professional services expertise and staff. And solution providers are buying peers to expand market reach and capabilities.
