Cloud Unified Communications Fulfill Modern Needs

In terms of communications, enterprises are generally falling into one of two categories - on-site and hosted. Some companies have legacy systems that have held up well over the years and show little sign of fatigue. In these instances, it is becoming common to adapt existing circuits for the cloud functionality that the modern day demands. But for every organization that is able to stay the course, there is another that is ready for a change. Many office networks are not even well-enough off that they can meet new requirements, let alone perform how they were initially designed to.

This is leading many businesses to migrate away from their existing solutions and hook up with a hosted UC service. These networks are loaded with new advantages that many other companies lack. This allows for some organizations to surpass the competition and get out ahead in their respective fields.

The power of cloud unified communications cannot be understated. The flexibility and agility that are inherent of these systems - and the practices that go with them - enable enterprises of all kinds to support both their employees and customers in innovative ways.

    Modern Offices Require Simplicity

Part of the appeal that comes with a hosted solution lies in the rapid evolution of technology. Within the last few years, consumer-grade hardware and programs have undergone significant change. This is so much so the case that the concept of the IT department in and of itself is transforming. According to No Jitter contributor David Michels, this is fueling a specific breed of chaos as companies scramble to redefine IT.

But thankfully, there is an effective solution in outsourcing. By turning to a trusted cloud communications provider, in-house IT staff can focus on more mission-specific needs rather than spend all of their time managing system updates and other menial tasks. This is also an effective way to trim upkeep costs out of already-constrained budgets.

"Ah, the simplicity of the cloud, where IT (and user) needs are met in the blink of an eye," Michels wrote. "Unlike that equipment in the closet that depreciates in more ways than one, cloud services continue to update – passively and automatically. Software maintenance costs and hassles vanish. Cloud-delivered services let organizations and end users use what they have."

    Embracing The Millennial Workforce

Inevitably, a younger generation of professionals is going to take over offices on a global scale. By some accounts, that is well on its way to happening in the United States. According to Jessica Brack, program director for UNC Executive Development at Kenan-Flagler Business School, millennials will make up 46 percent of the workforce by 2020 - less than 6 years from now.

This is something that companies will need to keep in mind as they reconsider their telecommunications capabilities. Millennials grew up around computers and generally have a great grasp on how to use them - almost to a fault. If team members feel that their employer's solutions are not in-line with modern needs and productivity styles, they may turn to unapproved alternatives with weak security encryptions - or to another job altogether.

Effective unified communications systems in the cloud are the appropriate answer to this issue. Staffers in this age are, for example, expecting the opportunity to work from home when they so choose. This is not entitlement - this is a natural step for mobile-minded employees. Working from home is not a major demand as long as the right networks are in place. Presence and collaboration are both still essentials in the modern world, but thanks to the cloud, it is possible to obtain them without being in the physical workplace. According to Brack, this is something that organizations should welcome with open arms, as it presents new opportunities for innovation.

"By all accounts, millennials are unlike preceding generations," Brack wrote. "They view the world differently and redefined the meaning of success, personally and professionally. In some cases, this has led to misunderstanding among the different generations co-existing in today's workplace. Increasingly, however, business leaders are realizing this generation's unique competencies and perspective, and employers are looking for ways to harness their strengths."

One such way to do this undoubtedly through unified communications hosted in the cloud. The way that people work is changing, and rather than try to champion old methods that no longer apply in the present day, it is important to embrace new developments that make sense in modern context.

Don't Wait For What's Already Here

The fact is that demands surrounding telecom assets are changing rapidly. Technology is evolving, and as such it is critical to examine just how new tools can foster success in the enterprise. This is where unified communications, hosted in the cloud, can be of great importance. They have been proven to save time and money while enabling staffers for a greater level of success. In order to keep up with the times, it will be important to obtain cloud unified communications.
