Cloud VoIP Stigmas Must Be Ignored, Part 2

    The cloud is a technology that can be difficult to implement. If a proper migration isn't planned out, then it's possible that disaster could be waiting around the corner. But technical issues can often be the least of an organization's concerns. Some people are afraid of the cloud - plain and simple. They hear stories about cloud-related disasters and assume that it's a flawed way of computing. But the fact of the matter is that the cloud can revolutionize the way that people do business, and that the cloud is no more safe or dangerous to use than other commonly-leveraged technologies. The secret is in how you use it.

    According to recent research from Gartner, much of the confusion has to do with the inability to nail down a solid picture of the cloud that everyone can understand. There may be a general idea permeating through the tech world, but there is still a serious lack of coherent explanations.

    "Even with a mostly agreed on formal definition, multiple perspectives and agendas still conspire to mystify the subject ever more," stated Gartner. "Add the incessant hype and there can be a resultant confusion that permeates IT (and beyond) today."

    As a result, incredible assets like mobile VoIP interfaces are not being considered by the companies that may need them the most. The modern workforce is defined in part by its mobility, and being unable to access office phone networks is seen as a major drawback by professionals of all ages.

    Mobile, Cloud VoIP Is A Modern Essential

    Enterprises today are gradually beginning to push away from the restrictions of legacy telecommunications. Some may choose to update their existing systems in order to accomplish this, but an increasing number of organizations are opting to go with hosted providers of cloud-based VoIP. This is in response to the overwhelming need for employees to be mobile. It has been clearly established that the remote workforce has become empowered by their mobile devices, and that they are capable of so much more when they are given the freedom to roam. No one recognizes this better than business professionals themselves, and they are beginning to require support in this vein, not just desire it. In fact, a lack of cloud communications is starting to become grounds for leaving a company and seeking work elsewhere. Mobility is that important!


    But enabling mobile productivity may require some work, namely when convincing management that it is something of value. This can be hard to accomplish thanks to a number of misunderstandings surrounding the cloud. But not only is the cloud secure enough for enterprise use, it is also a flexible asset that bends to fit the shape of any company that pursues it. The assumption that organizations move to the cloud just to save money is false and sells the technology's power incredibly short.

    "While prices are dropping, especially for infrastructure as a service ... not all cloud service pricing is coming down," Gartner stated. "Assuming that the cloud always saves money can lead to career-limiting promises. Saving money may end up one of the benefits, but it should not be taken for granted."

    This is especially true when it comes to communications. In order to increase employee job satisfaction while saving money and increasing productivity, cloud VoIP will need to be implemented.
