Giants Media Day: Knocking It Out of the Park

As a Brit now living in the San Francisco Bay Area, I have come to love the spectacle of baseball – the big stadium, singing of the national anthem, colorful uniforms, crowd reactions and sheer athleticism. Last night, as the San Francisco Giants took on the Washington Nationals at AT&T Stadium, the sport shined in all its glory as I was surrounded by some of the best fans in the league and breathtaking views of the bay.

The only dark spot during an otherwise perfect evening was that the Giants, who have the best record in baseball, lost 6-2 against the Nationals, who are hot and on a winning streak.

BillphotoTo make a great night even better, ShoreTel celebrated its partnership with the Giants by hosting a small group of media and analysts at its annual Giants media day event. We were joined by Giants CIO Bill Schlough, who showed us the server room – aka, the brains of the operation – where the ShoreTel technology is housed. Bill shared how and why the Giants and ShoreTel struck up one of the happiest partnerships in sports with ShoreTel and continue to see cost savings in IT, enhanced productivity in the front office, and increased revenue through multi-tenant deals. The Giants use ShoreTel’s premises solution in the stadium, as well as their training facility and warehouse in Scottsdale, Ariz.

We were also joined by Matt Derrigo, CIO at Brown and Caldwell, an environmental engineering firm that adopted ShoreTel in spring 2012 and has rolled out our technology across 45 offices. Where ShoreTel really hits it out of the park, Matt explained, is the hybrid solution, which enables Brown and Caldwell to use a premises solution in its established offices and cloud in temporary offices in use during projects when they need quick ramp up and easy takedown.

Several of my ShoreTel colleagues – CEO Don Joos, CFO Mike Healy, Director of Investor Relations Barry Hutton and Senior Director of Product Marketing Bernard Gutnick – were also in attendance. We all had a great time and are proud to be supporting such a talented and energetic team (and World Series winning to boot).  To share our enthusiasm, we raffled off Giants gear and autographed baseballs. One lucky winner, Joseph Tsidulko of CRN, will head back to Los Angeles and hopefully rock his Giants jacket alongside his Dodgers attire (also a ShoreTel customer!).

Here’s to another great media day at the ballpark and a return to the Giants’ winning streak as they head into series game 4!
