ShoreTel Customers Embrace Virtualized Unified Communications in Asia

This week we showcased our latest virtualized solutions as a sponsor of VMware’s vForum event in Sydney and in Singapore. We talked to hundreds of interested people at the booths with delegates eager to learn more about virtualizing ShoreTel on VMware. Many people stopped by for an orange slushie in Singapore – check out the photos on twitter.

Our current UC platform release, ShoreTel 14.2, allows companies of all sizes to deploy a ShoreTel communications system in a virtual environment. ShoreTel 14.2 delivers greater flexibility for customers, with the ability to mix and match hardware-based and virtual appliances in a single network, all managed using a single web-based management interface. With ShoreTel 14.2, customers may now select the UC deployment model that best suits their business and infrastructure needs – virtual, physical or any combination of both. The benefits are immediate – reduced hardware and operational complexity, higher application availability, increased scalability and reliability.

“Since the global release of ShoreTel 14.2 earlier this year, our partners in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore have really embraced the new capabilities and opportunities that a virtualized communications presents for their business,” said my colleague Frédéric Gillant, vice president and managing director of Asia Pacific for ShoreTel. “It’s enabled ShoreTel partners to deliver new technical offerings, and also opened up greater business opportunities for partners to offer cloud-based and managed hosting solutions.”

More and more organizations throughout Asia are embracing the ability to deliver ShoreTel unified communication as a virtual software-only solution as it allows customers to take advantage of server consolidation, increased security, operational flexibility and higher applications availability during planned and unplanned downtime - all resulting in increased cost savings and decreased downtime.

Lawrence Chua, head of managed IT services at Ricoh, said: “We are a channel for both VMware and ShoreTel, and we’ve recently decided to virtualize our own Unified Communications by deploying a virtualized ShoreTel solution on VMware. We want to reduce our infrastructure costs by consolidating our servers and this will also have the added benefit of improving our business continuity and capabilities through the provision of a high availability deployment.”

Preston Motors Group Relies on Virtualized ShoreTel Platform

preston motors2ShoreTel’s virtualized UC platform has given Preston Motors Group the flexibility to deploy a new telephony environment even though the Victorian-based Australian company was planning to move to a new corporate headquarters.

Prestons Motor Group implemented an on-premises ShoreTel solution to provide unified communications for all staff in its nine car dealerships in Victoria and the ACT, with plans in place to move the UC infrastructure into a third party data centre once the corporate headquarters relocation takes place. The implementation was completed by CTI Solutions, a ShoreTel partner providing high quality communications services and support to businesses across Australia.

“The main advantage of the ShoreTel virtualized platform is that the phone system can be located anywhere. With Prestons Motor Group, we were able to offer an on-premises solution first, with the flexibility to move that to a data centre at a later stage,” said Andrew Demetriou, communications consultant at CTI Solutions.

“With ShoreTel’s virtualized platform, we have been able to get involved in more complex solutions and also become more consultative in our approach. Having fully virtualized communications means that we can future proof our customer’s infrastructure and also reduce their IT footprint either by moving more services and infrastructure into the data centre, or by provisioning UC on their existing virtualized infrastructure.

“Virtualization also has given us the ability to get involved with deals that require multi-site and multi-tenant environments that need to be very cost-effective. We are now competing with hosted solutions all around Australia,” said Demetriou.
