State of the CIO Survey Shows Tech World in Flux

The annual State of the CIO 2013 survey comes as rapid changes are transforming the technology and business world, and CIOs’ attitudes reflect that change.

For 2013, more CIOs than ever (56 percent) say they are focusing on businesses strategy and improving their companies’ prospects through transformational activities. These activities include aligning IT initiatives with business goals, implementing new systems and architecture, and leading change efforts.

The size of the companies the CIOs work for doesn’t matter, with CIOs from SMBs and the enterprises having the same focus, according to the survey of 563 executives, conducted by CIO, a media entity which includes and CIO magazine.

Technology trends determining this focus, according to the CIOs, are cloud computing (34 percent in North America), mobility (30 percent), big data (15 percent), consumerization of desktop/devices, (15 percent), and social media (6 percent).

There is little doubt that ShoreTel is playing right along with these technology trends with its all-in-one IP phone system with unified communications and contact center capabilities, and cloud-based communications from ShoreTel Sky, which delivers businesses of all sizes hosted VoIP, hosted unified communications (UC) and hosted contact center services.

And last week, ShoreTel leveraged several of these technologies, including mobility, device consumerization, and social media in releasing ShoreTel Mobility 6 and ShoreTel Conferencing, which turn the Apple iPad into a business communications tool, enabling integrated collaboration capabilities, increased accessibility and improved communications, regardless of the user’s location.
