Stepping Up in the 2014 NetworkWorld Asia Awards

We were invited to attend the 2014 NetworkWorld Asia Readers’ Choice Product Excellence Awards exactly one year after winning a ‘Rising Star’ award in 2013, and we had a good feeling that ShoreTel was going to win the award for a second year running.

Just like last year, the NetworkWorld Asia team organised a great event. The awards night was held at Singapore's Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel and the pre-dinner cocktail hour was a great opportunity to network and reconnect with colleagues from across the Asia-Pacific IT industry, with people attending from Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and even Australia.

Most of the people I spoke to are seeing a greater awareness of cloud computing from their customers and partners – something we are experiencing too with our partners really leveraging ShoreTel’s virtualised UC platform.

After sitting down for dinner with my ShoreTel colleagues Jai Cowan and Dennis Ling and enjoying the pre-awards entertainment, it was down to the serious business of announcing the 2014 award winners.

Then the surprise – Lifesize was named as the 2014 Communications and Collaboration Rising Star! Great news, because Lifesize is an important ShoreTel video partner. However, Jai, Dennis and I looked at each other in shock – does that mean we are going to win the main award?

And we did – winning NetworkWorld Asia’s 2014 Unified Communications and Collaboration Reader’s Choice Award!

The award is an important recognition and a step up from last year’s Rising Star award. The achievement is summed up perfectly by Victor Ng, Southeast Asia bureau chief at NetworkWorld Asia and Questex Asia who said afterwards: “This award will provide ShoreTel with prestigious industry recognition with its peers, as well as our readers who make the critical IT buying decisions for their companies."

NetworkWorld Asia’s awards are based on feedback from the publication’s readers – who include CIOs, technology directors, IT project heads, network managers and data centre managers – so it’s really significant that end-users of our technology solutions have chosen ShoreTel as the best of the best in the field of UC&C.

The night ended in a blur of music, celebrations and dancing – but it was back to work on Friday morning, trophy in hand!
