CMAC Sullana Banks on Mitel

Peruvian microlender reduces costs, increases customer services with unified communications

Operating 10 branches throughout northern Peru, the grassroots financial institution has expanded rapidly since its first branch opened in December 1986. Like most rural microlenders, CMAC Sullana’s telephony operating expenses are higher due to the widely dispersed client base it serves. As the number of branches grew, so did the costs of its telephony operations with a mix of aging analog and digital PBXs assembled as it added new locations making the management and maintenance of the disparate solutions difficult and costly.

To address these challenges, CMAC Sullana has selected Mitel IP communications solutions to connect its head office with the disparate network of telephony gear over its current wide area network. In doing so, the lender will reduce costly administration, moves and maintenance costs and, with IP-trunking, eliminate inter-branch long-distance and local toll charges, allowing it to redirect the money to finance self-employment and other local economic development projects. CMAC Sullana recently opened a branch in Lima, Peru’s national capital, and will add three new branches that will be equipped with cost-effective Mitel solutions.

“The implementation was seamless as we simultaneously cutover the new system at our head office in Sullana and at seven branches,” said Agustín Saldarriaga, gerente de tecnologías de la información, CMAC Sullana. “We were all the more pleased that Mitel’s solution did not require a replacement of our existing LAN and WAN networks and that we can now manage, maintain and upgrade our entire network from once centralized location.”

BMP Ingenieros S.A., a Peruvian systems integrator that specializes in information technology and telecommunications, spearheaded the installation of the new system on behalf of Mitel. CMAC Sullana’s head office and branch locations have been equipped with additional productivity enhancing solutions including video conferencing, unified messaging as well as teleworking solutions.
