Mitel®, (NASDAQ:MITL), a leading provider of unified communications software solutions, today announced that Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, a campus of Memorial University of Newfoundland, has selected Mitel to provide key components of its advanced emergency notification system. The new mass notification solution combines offerings from both Mitel and Mitel affiliate partner, Benbria, to provide a truly comprehensive solution for enhancing student and staff security campus-wide.
A key element of Grenfell's system is Mitel's Dynamic Extension solution, which provides faculty and staff with single-number reachability across multiple devices. Calls to a user's business number can simultaneously ring up to eight devices in a personal ring group. These devices can be any combination of internal extensions and external devices such as a user's mobile phone, home phone or other vendor IP phones.
With Benbria's BlazeCast notification system, authorized staff at Grenfell can quickly and easily send PC desktop and telephone alerts to faculty and students during emergency situations. Desktop PCs display alerts as a full-screen message while voice and text notifications are broadcast to all devices in the notification list. The system allows both pre-configured text and voice message templates to be created for anticipated scenarios, substantially decreasing the time between a serious event and the notification of staff and students.
"Memorial University takes student and faculty security very seriously and with the BlazeCast System, we will be able to disseminate emergency messages to approximately 15,000 end points across the entire Grenfell campus," says Dennis Waterman, director, administration and finance at Grenfell College. Furthermore, Grenfell will extend its existing Mitel infrastructure and install 600 Mitel 5330 IP Phones in its student residences. Each student room will be equipped with a phone that can display notifications on the LCD screen to ensure the students are alerted promptly.
