The new Benbria BlazeCast system will be used to alert and inform the Carleton campus community in the event of a major incident or campus emergency. This innovative and unique three-tiered approach to rapid notification sends a PC desktop alert that displays a full-screen message while locking thousands of networked computers, a mass email notification to over 27,000 Carleton email accounts, and an SMS message to more than 15,000 people who provided a cell phone number for this service.
"We are pleased to extend our relationship with Mitel to make us a leader in the emergency notification space for Canadian universities," says Carleton's Len Boudreault, director of the Department of University Safety. "We have recently tested the solution successfully and we are confident in its ability to enhance campus safety in the event of an emergency."
"Carleton's new ENS is an impressive use of technology that meets the critical challenge of mass notification and helps make Carleton an even safer, more secure campus," said Vern White, Chief of the Ottawa Police Service. "I encourage all large employers and other public institutions to consider a similar system."
Using the BlazeCast system, Carleton can save pre-configured broadcast templates for known scenarios, making it easy and quick to disseminate information. This helps reduce miscommunication as students, staff, and faculty receive an alert with instructions on how to proceed during the emergency.
"Mitel and Benbria continue to have success in delivering solutions that enhance critical incident notification to all levels of education and large enterprises," says Paul Butcher, Mitel president and COO. "Our work together on the ENS will revolutionize how emergency situations are communicated in post-secondary institutions."
