Colerain Township

Located in Hamilton County, and part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area, Colerain is the largest township in Ohio. It is administered by a local government that values leadership, strives to provide creative solutions to challenges and prides itself on delivering high-quality programs and services. That’s why, when they realized the communications system linking residents with eight government locations was outdated and expensive, they went looking for a better one that would enable them to be more efficient.

“We talked to a lot of different vendors,” says Assistant Township Administrator Frank Birkenhauer, “and we looked at several solutions. But in the end it was an easy decision to go with Mitel®.”

The expense of using outdated communications technology increases yearly – not only in hard dollars spent for services and maintenance, but because employees have to spend much of their valuable time performing basic tasks. That was the problem Colerain Township faced with their Centrex phone lines and analog technology. “We were actually buying parts on eBay,” chuckles Birkenhauer.

Goals
  • Upgrade expensive, outdated analog communications system with efficient, cost-effective VoIP solution
Results
  • Savings. Clear and significant cost savings now and in the future.
  • Efficiency. More productive employees, with better ability to deliver existing services and provide new ones to township residents.

  • Audio web conferencing. Inter-office meeting and training capabilities save time and travel expenses.
  • Improved government / citizen interaction. Direct inward dialing (DID) and messaging features ensure that government understands and can respond to residents’ needs.
  • Relationship with Mitel. Mitel understood Colerain’s needs, explained their options, and developed a total solution tailored for the Township.
