A core tenet of Mitel’s values is believing in the power of giving back and positively impacting the communities we serve. During Mitel's Month of Service in June, dedicated employees contributed their time and effort to various causes. Whether running charity events, cooking meals for people without housing, or planting trees to support environmental sustainability, our employee volunteers make a difference worldwide.
Our ambitious goal in 2024 is to contribute 3,500 service hours to 60 organizations, significantly impacting communities worldwide. In celebration of the people who bring our corporate volunteering program, Mitel Serves, to life, we’d like to recognize the hard work, dedication, and compassion of our employees who go above and beyond to support those in need.
Here are some highlights from this year’s June Month of Service:
On International Children’s Day, the Mitel Romania office celebrated by providing gifts, including new shoes, to 46 children from the villages of Ticuș and Cobor. Supported by the Bucuria Darului Foundation, our colleagues dedicated their time to making the day memorable for these children, turning June 1 into a true celebration and kicking off Mitel’s Month of Service with a bang.
Fifteen Mitel employees from the Czech Republic volunteered 60 hours at the Prague Zoo, helping to clean the moufflon enclosure and prepare for the summer season. Their efforts, which included removing animal dung for use as organic fertilizer, supported the zoo's educational excursions and ended with a special guided tour and the chance to feed the animals.
The Kanata team laced up their sneakers for The Royal Ottawa's Run for Women, raising funds for women's mental health research and care at The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. Our Marvelous Mitel Mavens participated in the 5k and 10k runs, and the event raised over $260,000 CAD, which will be used to help address the unique way women experience mental illness, treatment, recovery, and care.
Mitel employee Bruce Weaver worked to assist with an awareness-raising event on first responders and PTSD in Maryland, organized by Behind the Line, Inc. The event featured peer support services, a screening of the documentary PTSD911 by Bruce’s brother Conrad Weaver, and a panel discussion on improving support for first responders dealing with trauma.
Team Mitel Bulgaria joined efforts to reforest Vitosha Mountain, planting trees in partnership with the Ecoobshtnost Foundation. Twenty team members and many of their families contributed to the expansion of Bulgaria's forest cover, helping to counteract the loss of forested land due to human activity.
Mitel employees volunteered at the St. Louis Area Foodbank, sorting and packaging food items. Their efforts contributed to enough meals for 7,145 people, with seven volunteers giving 21 hours to help families in need.
Eleven Mitel Romania employees volunteered six hours each to prepare 41 meals for older adults through the Dinner with Benefits Program by the Bucuria Darului Foundation. Guided by Chef Ionuț at the Mulțumesc Canteen, the team’s three-course meal brought joy to the recipients and inspired them to plan a repeat event in October.
For the Month of Service, Team Mitel Hungary continued supporting the Order of Malta by assembling furniture for a new nursing home for people with intellectual disabilities. Divided into two groups, they set up kitchen furniture and constructed beds for the facility, which will accommodate 80 residents. This follows their previous work in April, helping to set up a kitchen for another nursing home.
The Kanata team has a longstanding tradition of supporting the Kanata Food Cupboard by restocking shelves and sorting goods. For the 2024 Month of Service, with the Food Cupboard in the midst of relocating, Mitel employees stepped in to assist by transferring donated items into durable, stackable containers for the move.
As we reflect on Mitel's Month of Service 2024, we are deeply inspired by the dedication and compassion of our employees. Their collective efforts have significantly impacted the globe, from supporting local charities and environmental initiatives to raising awareness for mental health and assisting community projects. We look forward to continuing to meet our service goals throughout the year.
