Last Friday, Mitel employees across the world celebrated the 45th anniversary of our company by giving back to the communities in which we live. We could never have reached a milestone like 45 years – quite a feat in the telecommunications industry –  without those communities’ support.

To recap Mitel Serves day, we would like to highlight some of the organizations we helped and the outstanding work they do.

Bangalore, India – Dream School Foundation

Partnering with an NGO called Dream School Foundation, Mitel employees brought school bags, books, stationery and delicious sweets to more than 500 underprivileged children from two schools.

Both schools also received a donation of a library and books to stock it — with part of the funding coming from Mitel employees who personally contributed to the donation.

Vienna, Austria – RED NOSES

Have you seen the iconic red noses? RED NOSES – Clowndoctors International helps people who are sick or suffering get their daily dose of laughter. It operates in 10 different countries.

Mitel employees in Vienna donned red noses and set out to inspire some laughs.

Sunnyvale, California, United States – Save Our Shores

In Sunnyvale, Mitel employees chose to link arms with Save Our Shores on Mitel Serves day. Blue Mitel t-shirts lined the sandy beach as employees turned out to clean up the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

Mitel employees collected over 50 pounds of trash and donated $1,000 to Save Our Shores.

Guyancourt, France – Le Parc du Peuple de l’herbe

French employees participated by cleaning up a local park. Spanning more than 270 acres, Le Parc du Peuple de l’herbe is dedicated to protecting and preserving the environment.

Now, the community can enjoy a cleaner, healthier park.

Caldicot, Wales – Monmouthshire Community Connections

Today, Mitel employees in Caldicot are hosting their official Mitel Serves event, joining hands with Monmouthshire Community Connections and playing host to a Tea Dance for the elderly people in the community.

Tasty refreshments and lively dancing bring together this rural community, allowing them to socialize and have fun.

Rochester, New York, United States – Greentopia

In New York, Mitel employees partnered with the City of Rochester and Greentopia to breathe new life into the Granite Mills city park by distributing soil into the garden beds, tending carefully to the existing gardens and pulling up weeds in the butterfly garden.

Mitel employees planted more than 45 new plants in the gardens in just one day.

Reno, Nevada, United States – Northern Nevada Food Bank Distribution Center

Food insecurity is a major problem across the state of Nevada, so Mitel employees teamed up with the Northern Nevada Food Bank Distribution Center to pack food boxes for senior citizens in the community.

Within two hours, the team packed 611 boxes—a total of over 19,000 pounds of food. The food will fill the bellies of people living in the surrounding community.

Mesa, Arizona, United States – Boys and Girls Clubs of East Valley

In Arizona, Mitel employees spent Mitel Serves day with the kids at the Boys and Girls Clubs of East Valley. Bringing in items for care packages, Mitel employees worked with the kids to assemble the care packages.

They will be distributed by CARE 7, a team that provides for the homeless and families in need.

“We had a great time with all of the kids who were excited to be doing something kind for others!” says Elisa Sheppard, Site Champion for the Mitel offices in Mesa, Arizona.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States – Hunger Task Force Farm

Several Mitel employees spent the day at the Hunger Task Force Farm in Wisconsin. After setting up irrigation for peppers, they laid straw to suppress weeds for thousands of tomato plants.

The farm’s fresh fruits and vegetables are delivered every week to local pantries, meal sites and senior centers.

Kanata, Canada – Christie Lake Kids Camp

Our home office in Kanata participated in a variety of activities—one of which was volunteering at the Christie Lake Kids Camp. Mitel employees did everything from assisting with snacks and lunch to brush clearing and chainsaw work to light carpentry and painting.

“We are so much closer to being ready for camp season, all because of your involvement, so on behalf of our staff and kids, thank you!” says Matt Breen, Property Manager at Christie Lake Kids Camp.

Plano, Texas, United States – Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA)

At two local SPCA locations, Mitel employees volunteered their time to serve the community—and the community’s soon-to-be pets. Mitel employees scrubbed food dishes, cleaned chicken coops and said “hello” to the many animals on the property.

Thomas Lokar, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) at Mitel, was (literally) out in the field to help the animals by creating a safe, clean place for them to live until they find their forever home.

Mitel Serves day involved more than 30 Mitel offices across the globe. Employees spent over 4,500 hours volunteering in various activities — gathering supplies for schoolchildren, tomato farming, cleaning up local parks and so much more.

Without the support of the communities in which we live and work, Mitel would not be where it is today. It is because of the buy-in of people on the ground level that we have been able to grow and thrive for so long. Here’s to 45 years and the many people who made this possible.
