Ohio’s Largest Township Trims Budget by 78 Percent and Boosts Efficiency with Mitel

Colerain Township selects Mitel to replace outdated communications system

Colerain Township, part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area prides itself in delivering high-quality services and programs to its citizens. However, the limitations of its existing, outdated communications system negatively impacted communications with residents. There were too few lines in operation, and citizens often encountered busy signals when calling township offices.

Furthermore, the expense of the older system increased yearly – not only in service and maintenance costs but in lost productivity, as employees spent valuable time performing basic tasks, cutting into resources that could be dedicated to other areas. With the Mitel 3300 IP Communications Platform (ICP) as the backbone of its new communications system, Colerain Township selected applications to significantly improve service for its citizens. This includes the Mitel Teleworker Solution and Mitel Unified Communicator® (UC) Mobile, which ensure that key staff are reachable at all times, even at home.

Colerain Township also selected Mitel Unified Communicator® (UC) Advanced to streamline call flow, increase employee visibility, and improve taxpayer services. Using the presence capabilities of UC Advanced, reception can easily route calls to available employees based on their presence status, ensuring calls are answered by the right people at the right time.

With Mitel Audio and Web Conferencing, Colerain Township can easily facilitate internal communications so employees in different offices can collaborate efficiently, saving time and travel costs. The Colerain fire department plans to conduct training via Web conferencing at all fire stations simultaneously, while keeping fire fighters on call.

"We knew we needed a communications system that could scale with our growth and usage," says Frank Birkenhauer, assistant township administrator for Colerain. "We did a comparison and found that the Mitel system cost a fraction of what we were paying before. In fact, since implementing the Mitel solutions, our annual service costs have dropped 78 percent. We looked at several competitive solutions for our communications system, but in the end, it was an easy decision to go with Mitel."
